Who’s running for Ada County assessor? Learn candidates’ positions on the big issues

Next year, for the first time in 28 years, Ada County residents will have a new county assessor.

Voters have two candidates to choose between. A Democrat and a Republican are running for the position, which is responsible for overseeing property valuations, which are part of the puzzle that determines property taxes each year.

Rebecca Arnold, a Republican, and Erik Berg, a Democrat, will face off in November. Arnold has run for the job before: She lost to McQuade in the 2010 GOP primary election, while she served as an Ada County Highway District commissioner.

The Idaho Statesman sent surveys to each candidate, and their responses are copied below, unedited. Use the horizontal scroll bar underneath each Q&A as needed to read the full Q&A. You also can click on the chart and drag horizontally.

In their responses, candidates discussed property taxes and housing affordability.

Months of fundraising have gone into campaigning for Ada County races, though Berg has not recorded any donations.
