Ruby Leman, Tyler Sickerson voted the Register's female and male Athletes of the Week

Dowling Catholic girls track and field athlete Ruby Leman and Ankeny boys track and field athlete Tyler Sickerson were voted the Register's Iowa Ortho female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of April 1-7.

Leman won female Athlete of the Week with 82% of the vote. Panorama girls track and field athlete Jaidyn Sellers took second with 8%.

Leman turned in the best outdoor long jump effort in Iowa high school girls track and field thus far, according to Varsity Bound, at the Valley Relays Saturday in West Des Moines.

Leman won the event with a jump of 18 feet, one inch. She took first by six inches over the 17-7 jump by Des Moines East's Kiya James.

Sickerson won male Athlete of the Week with 28% of the vote. Underwood boys soccer player Kaden Ogle came in a close second with 24%.

Sickerson ran the fastest 100-meter dash time for boys track in the state, according to Varsity Bound, during the Southeast Polk Invitational on April 4.

Sickerson won the 100 at Southeast Polk with a time of 10.55 seconds.
