Bringing a slew of new Yeezy sneaker drops, Yeezy day commemorates Ye’s game-changing sneakers with adidas — and brings a few new sneaker drops. These Yeezy Day drops are accessible through Yeezy Supply, adidas confirmed, and the adidas app, but always sell out almost immediately. However, there is another way to celebrate Yeezy Day. Some of Kanye’s recent design work, YEEZY GAP Engineered by Balenciaga, is still in stock, letting you pick up some Yeezy gear without the stress.
Masterminded by West, Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia, and Gap, YEEZY GAP x BALENCIAGA collection is available for purchase through Farfetch.com and YeezyGap.com (some items are still preorder only). The collection comprises two drops, which came out in February and May, respectively. Prices range from $60 to $500.
Yeezy Gap
Delivering an assortment of tops, bottoms, and accessories, the latest drop mirrors Kanye’s current look with a nearly all-black palette. Nylon, elastane, and spandex abound, lending a futuristic vibe that Ye has been championing recently. Some pieces, such as the long sleeve bodysuit, showcase the 44-year-old’s taste for the unorthodox.
Originally slated for release on May 25, the new collection was postponed due to the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Before the collection’s release, a message on YeezyGap.com read: “IN LIGHT OF THE TRAGEDY IN UVALDE, TEXAS, WE ARE POSTPONING THE YEEZY GAP ENGINEERED BY BALENCIAGA LAUNCH UNTIL FRIDAY, MAY 27 AT 6AM PST / 9AM EST. AS WE PAUSE, OUR HEARTS GO OUT TO THE FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES IMPACTED.”
Fans got a sneak peek of the new YEEZY GAP Engineered by Balenciaga collection earlier this month in West’s “Life of the Party” music video. The video, released on May 9, sees old photos of Ye animated and photoshopped, performing the track while rocking the new YEEZY GAP x BALENCIAGA gear.
The first drop from YEEZY GAP Engineered by Balenciaga — which was released in February — started shipping on July 1 and got a restock on Farfetch.com during the second capsule.
Ye’s relationship with Balenciaga designer Gvasalia can be traced back to last year when the duo teamed up to create merch for West’s Donda listening party. Last year also saw the first releases from Yeezy Gap, including the much-hyped Round Jacket puffer and Yeezy x GAP Hoodie.
Although Kanye has always put out some of the best merch in the game, these YEEZY GAP Engineered by Balenciaga drops are been special. Combining the clout of an esteemed French designer, Ye’s eye for trends, and Gap’s mass-market reach, the YEEZY GAP x BALENCIAGA pieces are unlike West’s (many) previous endeavors in fashion. It represents a continued expansion of the mogul’s influence in clothing, and industry experts are not surprised.
