Royals’ Vinnie Pasquantino talks WBC and his bobblehead idea during YouTube interview

Royals rookie Drew Waters crashed into the right-field wall while making a dazzling catch during Thursday’s game against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago.

That robbed AJ Pollock of a hit and ended the second inning.

When the Royals came to bat in the third inning, Waters was at the plate and teammate Vinnie Pasquantino was in the dugout doing an interview with the YouTube announcers during the broadcast.

Pasquantino revealed an axiom of baseball that, well, may not actually be true.

“It was an unbelievable catch. I mean he has to get a hit,” Pasquantino said. “I’m pretty sure that’s the rules of baseball, you rob a hit you get one, so we’ll see.”

Viewers didn’t have to wait long to see that Pasquantino was correct as Waters singled to right field.

That was just the beginning of the fun in the interview with Pasquantino. Here are some of the highlights.

Pasquantino was asked about the World Baseball Classic, which is in March. Would he be playing for Team Italy?

“I have no comment on that matter now,” Pasquantino said after a long pause. “I can tell you this: There’s another player on this team that is also looking to play for Team Italy. But I won’t give that one away.

“And nobody’s gonna guess who it is, but I’ll be excited once it’s announced, if he decides to do it.”

In-game analyst Yonder Alonso jokingly asked if was fellow rookie Bobby Witt, Jr.

“I don’t know how much Italian blood Bobby Witt has in him,” Pasquantino said, “but who knows?”

Pasquantino, who is on the injured list because of shoulder discomfort, was asked how he’s feeling.

“I feel great. I’m working my way back,” Pasquantino said. “I’m listening to the medical professionals on our staff. Whatever they say, we do.”

A member of the broadcast team said he’s been told Double-A Northwest Arkansas is planning a Pasquantino bobblehead, and heard the Royals first baseman is hoping it’ll be of him at a breakfast table eating an Italian breakfast.

“That’d be great. I don’t know how they’d really make that,” Pasquantino said. “They’d have to figure out what my breakfast order is first. So, yeah, we’ll definitely work on that. I hope to have a bib on with the fork. Probably my tongue out too, because I’m excited to eat it. So yeah, that’d be great.”

That really would be a great bobblehead.
