The Royals record isn’t great, but games are fun. Here’s how to get cheap tickets, deals

The Kansas City Royals have reached the halfway point of the MLB season. They’re currently 41-64, 23 games under .500, and now they’ve traded former all-stars Andrew Benintendi and Whit Merrifield.

While their record leaves a lot to be desired, traveling to The K isn’t a bad way to spend a summer day. Young players like Bobby Witt Jr., Vinnie Pasquantino and MJ Melendez, along with veterans Salvador Perez, Michael A. Taylor and Zack Greinke, make this a team worth watching throughout the highs and lows.

Ticket prices also tend to reflect the team’s overall play so that you could find yourself with a good deal. Remember when Chiefs’ tickets were $30?

Check out a Royals game if you’re looking for something to do on a budget. Who knows how long they’ll be this cheap?

HOW DO I GET TICKETS?

You can buy tickets to any Royals home game here. Prices will vary depending on who and when they play. Ticket prices may also fluctuate on how well Kansas City is performing.

Currently, tickets to their games against the Boston Red Sox are as low as $11, and admission to games against rival Chicago White Sox are as low as $10. Parking passes cost double the price of admission.

You can also walk up and purchase tickets, as the box office is open at these times on game days:

  • 11 a.m. until the middle of the seventh inning on weekday games

  • One and a half hours before the game starts until the middle of the seventh inning on weekend games.

If you decide to catch a game on a whim, you can buy them at the box office and enjoy the show. However, it’s much easier to purchase tickets online.

Unofficial sites such as SeatGeek and StubHub have Royals tickets for as low as $6 before fees. The fees will push the cost up, but it’s still at an affordable price.

You can use the money you save going to a game on a $27 frozen margarita that comes in a $9.99 plastic souvenir bat.

Here’s a reminder of what you can and can’t bring into Kauffman Stadium on game days.

DO THE ROYALS OFFER SPECIAL DEALS?

For Jackson County residents, there are select games where tickets are 50% off. Check out the schedule for Jackson County Days here, where a game against the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 7 could cost only $5 per ticket.

Monday home games are Price Chop Mondays, with tickets starting at $10. Wednesday home games are the Royals’ student nights, where a valid high school or college ID will also give you access to $10 tickets.

Yes, you’ll be sitting in the heavens, but there’s no bad view of Kauffman Stadium.

With the money you save on entry, you can do what 18-year-old Jack Shaw did at a Royals game on July 12 and eat a hot dog every half-inning. However, you might want to consider trying the challenge on dollar hot dog nights, which happens every Tuesday home game.

WHERE ELSE CAN I WATCH FOR CHEAP?

Bars and restaurants around Kansas City will show the games whenever they’re on television. The best part is you can leave at any time.

If it’s too hot, cold, raining or you just don’t want to leave the house, you can always watch the game at home if you’re signed up for Bally Sports or have cable.

No one will hear you yell as the Royals lose another close game after leading for most of it.

Or, the radio is also an option if you don’t mind listening to the game instead of watching. You can listen to the Royals’ games for free on KCSP-AM (610) for Kansas City residents.
