This Is the Royal Family's Dress Code for the Queen’s Funeral
King Charles III declared a period of royal mourning for his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, following her death last Thursday, and during said period, members of the royal family must follow a strict dress code, out of respect for the longtime monarch.
The mourning period will last until one week after the queen's funeral, which is set to take place on September 19, at 11 a.m. U.K. time, at Westminster Abbey.
During the weeks of mourning, various events honoring Queen Elizabeth will be held: the Service of Thanksgiving at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, the procession to Westminster Hall and service of prayer and reflection, the vigil at Westminster Hall, the state funeral service at Westminster Abbey, and the committal service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
To those ceremonies, all working male members of the royal family must wear military uniform. As a non-working royal, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, will not wear uniform except as a special mark of respect for the queen at the final vigil.
As is custom for funerals and mourning ceremonies, the women will likely wear black.
This weekend, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and the Prince and Princess of Wales, greeted mourners outside Windsor Castle and praised their beautiful floral arrangements and loving tributes to the late queen. For the surprise joint appearance, Harry and William wore matching navy suits and ties with white dress shirts, while Meghan and Kate wore elegant midi dresses, heels, and stockings.
