The Royal Family Shares a Sweet Throwback Photo of Queen Elizabeth II After Her Funeral

The British royal family is remembering Queen Elizabeth through a touching throwback photo of her in the countryside, which they shared on social media following her state funeral and burial yesterday.

The photo shows the queen walking up a lush green hill with a view of grasses, trees, and a river in the background. She carries a walking stick and wears a headscarf wrapped around her hair and a forest green sweater.

"‘May flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest,’" the caption read, quoting William Shakespeare's Hamlet. "In loving memory of Her Majesty The Queen. 1926 - 2022."

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth, who died at 96 years old on September 8, was held yesterday at Westminster Abbey. Following the service, her coffin was taken in procession to Windsor, where a committal service was held at St. George's Chapel. Afterwards, she was lowered into a royal vault, where she was buried next to her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip.

Prior to the emotional day, King Charles III expressed his gratitude to well-wishers around the world.

"Over the last ten days, my wife and I have been so deeply touched by the many messages of condolence and support we have received from this country and across the world," the sovereign said. "As we all prepare to say our last farewell, I wanted simply to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those countless people who have been such a support and comfort to my Family and myself in this time of grief."
