Roundup: Windnagel’s hit gives Watkins Memorial 10-inning victory against Granville

Brayden Windnagel’s double in the bottom of the 10th inning Tuesday followed Cole Massie’s double, lifting the Watkins Memorial baseball team to a 2-1 victory against visiting Granville in Licking County League-Buckeye Division play.

Chase Massie struck out six in five two-hit innings, and Bradley Vincent struck out 11 in five one-hit scoreless innings of relief for the Warriors (8-3, 5-0). Chase Massie also had two hits.

Luke Bosse struck out seven in four five-hit innings, and Wilson Wells also struck out seven in 5 1/3 innings of relief for the Blue Aces (4-4, 2-2). Nolan Tracy had a hit and an RBI, and Wells scored the run.

Valley wins at Heights

Evan Lichtenauer struck out 12 without a walk, firing a three-hitter in Licking Valley’s 6-1 victory at Licking Heights in LCL-Buckeye play.

Brody Rodgers led the Panthers (7-1, 2-1) with a hit and three RBIs. Brandt Lichtenauer added a hit and a run and Hayden Rodgers a double and an RBI.

Carson Johnson homered for the Hornets (3-6, 1-3), and Joel Busker added two hits. Grady Stephens struck out five and allowed one earned run in four innings.

Utica wins at Johnstown

Gavin Tussey recorded a hit, a run and three RBIs, sparking Utica in a 9-2 victory at Johnstown in LCL-Cardinal play.

Connor Garee added two hits and two runs, Roman Gamble a hit and two RBIs and Gavin Chinn two runs and an RBI for Utica (5-5, 3-2), which scored all of its runs in the first three innings. Connor Staugh struck out four and allowed five hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Caiden Scholl totaled two hits and a run, Anthony Zrille a hit and a run and Nash Andrix and Erik Marohl a hit and an RBI apiece for the Johnnies (3-4, 1-2). Jack Herman and Braeden Archibald threw two hitless innings of relief apiece.

Newark wins

Austin Rose’s two-run home run put away Newark’s 4-1 victory against visiting Dublin Coffman.

Blane Sturm matched Rose with two hits and a run, and Seth Fish added a hit and two runs for the Wildcats (8-4). Dakota Foltz struck out four in five one-hit innings of relief.

Liberty wins at home

Aiden Geiger struck out five and allowed no earned runs in five two-hit innings, pitching Liberty Christian to a 6-2 victory against visiting Tree of Life in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Dawson Kamppi and Mason Kamppi each struck out two in a hitless inning of relief for the Eagles (2-3, 1-3). Mason Kamppi also recorded a double and three RBIs, and Jackson Cecil added two hits, including a double, a run and an RBI and Evan Dupler and James Rainier a hit and a run apiece.

Northridge drops road game

Braden Yoder had a hit and an RBI for Northridge in a 5-1 loss at Grove City Christian.

Riley Reeves scored for the Vikings (1-12). Braxton Ankrom struck out three and allowed one earned run in five innings.

SOFTBALL

Newark beats Groveport

Lexi Shanaberg hit a three-run home run in Newark’s 7-3 victory at Groveport (1-8, 0-5) in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Lillyana Holmes added two doubles, two runs and an RBI, Amora Spring two hits and a run and Audrey Lennon a double and an RBI for the Wildcats (6-7, 3-2). Carissa Shilts struck out six and allowed one earned run in a three-hitter.

Heath wins in seventh

Karli Staley’s walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning boosted Heath to a 3-2 victory against visiting Centerburg.

Kyndall Spicer added two hits, including an RBI double, Kylie Green two hits and a run and Sydney Cottrell two hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs (9-5). Green struck out one in three scoreless innings of relief.

Granville beats Johnstown

Megan Lodge homered and tripled, piling up six RBIs in Granville’s 11-0 victory against visiting Johnstown in LCL play.

Emily Travis added a home run and two RBIs, Taylor Warehime two hits, a run and an RBI and Alyssa Guglielmi two hits and a run for the Blue Aces (15-1, 6-0). Ally Ernsberger struck out five in a four-hit five-inning shutout.

Addy Zak, Ava Peterman, Brooklynne Siegel and Makayla Fain each singled for the Johnnies (3-7, 1-4).

Watkins wins

Alli Langwasser homered as a part of a three-hit performance and drove in five runs for Watkins Memorial in a 24-0 victory against visiting Northridge in LCL play.

Grace Whitman added two hits, two runs and three RBIs, Piper Newman a hit, two runs and two RBIs and Jordyn Wycuff a home run and a triple for the Warriors (11-0, 5-0). Carsyn Cassady struck out nine in three one-hit innings.

Gracie Smith singled and doubled for the Vikings (2-8, 0-5), and Kaitlyn Angus, Addison Moore and Karisa Miller each singled.

Heights wins

Alissa West racked up eight RBIs, homering in a three-hit day for Licking Heights in a 26-0 victory at Zanesville (0-8, 0-5) in LCL-Buckeye play.

Lily Meidl added a home run and three RBIs, Serenity Gutridge three hits and five runs and Evie Hays three hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Hornets (5-5, 2-3). Chesney McPeck struck out seven in three hitless innings of relief.

Liberty falls at home

Madison Looney notched a two-run single for Liberty Christian in a 26-3 loss to visiting Tree of Life in MOCAL play.

Carolee Marcum added a triple and a single, a run and an RBI and Cara Denlinger a hit and a run for the Eagles (0-5, 0-4).

TRACK

Ruffle leads Johnstown girls

Kate Ruffle won three individual events, taking the 100 (13.0), 200 (27.1) and long jump (15-feet-9), propelling Johnstown to a victory against Utica and host Licking Valley.

Reece Savage in the 400 (1:01.5) and 3,200 (11:43.1) and Alexis Diehl in the shot put (33-2) and discus (108-0) were double winners for the Johnnies, who totaled 84 points, well ahead of Utica’s 44 and Valley’s 41. Emma Kisner added a win in the 300 hurdles (53.8).

Individual winners for Valley were Stella Bowman in the 800 (2:43.5), Rylee Hillis in the high jump (4-10) and Allyson Conaway in the pole vault (8-6). Individual winners for Utica were Camryn Baker in the 1,600 (6:31.8) and Reagan Farrell in the 100 hurdles (19.1).

In the boys meet, Hunter McKinney won the high jump (5-10), Matt Stone the 3,200 (11:28.9) and Austin Kennedy the 110 hurdles (18.2) for Utica, which totaled 62 points to edge Valley’s 59 and Johnstown’s 52.

Trevor Croak was a double winner in the shot put (51-2) and discus (148-4.5) for the Panthers, and Jacob Wheeler in the long jump (19-9.5), Cooper Hornfeck in the pole vault (11-6) and Quinn Hornfeck in the 300 hurdles (43.4) also were individual winners.

Individual winners for the Johnnies were Keaton Curnutte in the 100 (11.1) and 200 (22.7), Cameron Beverick in the 400 (53.0), Matthew Cherry in the 800 (2:17.4) and Aidan Howard in the 1,600 (4:54.6).

Heath boys win

Carter Higgins in the shot put (47 feet) and discus (143-10) and Joshua Jones in the high jump (6-2) and long jump (18-10.25) each were double individual winners for Heath, leading the Bulldogs to a victory against host Liberty Union and Liberty Christian.

Carter Wiley in the 100 (11.62) and Tucker See in the 400 (54.16) also were individual winners for the Bulldogs, who totaled 76 points, two ahead of Liberty Union.

In the girls meet, Annabelle Stephens in the 100 (14.26), Kerilyn Davis in the 800 (2:50.30) and Bradlee Higgins in the 300 hurdles (52.30) were individual winners for Heath.

BOYS TENNIS

Newark sweeps

Will Woughter did not drop a game in winning at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, leading Newark to a 5-0 victory against visiting Central Crossing in the OCC-Buckeye opener.

Evan Devries, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 and Layton Shaner, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3 also won singles matches for the Wildcats (3-1, 1-0). Trever Anderson and Noah Devries, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 and Brody Brent and Grayson Boyer, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 won doubles matches.
