Roundup: Watkins Memorial 800 relay breaks school record, qualifies for state

A Watkins Memorial foursome made history Friday for the boys track team and is headed to state.

Senior Adam Brazier, juniors Joe McIntosh and John Apel and sophomore Elijah Hardiman ran a school-record time of 1:27.27 to place third during the Division I regional championships at Pickerington North. They will compete May 31 in Dayton.

Apel added a fifth-place finish in the 400 (48.55), earning an at-large berth based on results from across the state, and McIntosh placed seventh in the 100 (11.12) and eighth in the 200 (22.81). McIntosh, Hardiman, senior Jacob Holbert and sophomore Troy Blankenship placed seventh in the 400 relay (42.37).

The Granville girls also had a pair of automatic state qualifiers. Senior Kara Bergeron ran a time of 5:00.05 to place third in the 1,600, and sophomore Annie McCracken cleared 11-feet-4 in the pole vault to match her in third.

Bergeron, senior Caitriona Sproul, junior Avery Ogg and freshman Charlotte Turner placed fifth in the 1,600 relay (3:57.11), and junior Sophia Poling placed sixth in the 1,600 (5:10.60). Both earned at-large berths to state.

Licking Heights sophomore Addison Caudill placed seventh in the 1,600 (5:11.32). Granville junior Nora Carrington finished 12th in the long jump (16-1.75).

In the boys meet, Granville sophomore Cade Roberts tied for the 11th in the high jump (6-0). Licking Heights junior Alex Amartey did not record a distance in the shot put.

Jackson earns medal

Granville Christian sophomore Eliana Jackson ran a time of 1:00.93 to place eighth in the 400 during the Division III regional championships at Heath.

Newark Catholic senior Erin Keck finished 10th in the discus (105-feet-9).
