Roundup: Sopher twins lift Licking Valley baseball to victory in Tennessee

Cameron Sopher and Carter Sopher combined for four hits, two runs scored and three RBIs Thursday, rallying the Licking Valley baseball team to a 6-4 victory against Lake Zurich (Ill.) in Riverdale, Tennessee.

Brody Rodgers added two hits and an RBI and Trent Clark two RBIs as the Panthers (2-0) scored all of their runs in a two-run fifth inning and a four-run sixth. Evan Roberts struck out 12 against one walk in a complete game.

Watkins wins opener

Chase Massie struck out three in two scoreless innings, picking up the save for his twin brother Cole Massie in Watkins Memorial’s 3-2 victory against Crawfordsville (Ind.) in Riverdale, Tennessee to open the season.

Cole Massie struck out five and allowed four hits and one earned run in five innings. Andrew Botts recorded two hits, including a double, and a run scored, Aydan Guthrie a hit, a run scored and an RBI and Cole Massie a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Newark falls in 10th

Newark started fast with a Tyler Flint grand slam in the top of the first inning, but the visiting Wildcats were unable to push any more runs across in a 5-4 loss in 10 innings at Westerville North.

Dakota Foltz struck out five and allowed six hits and no runs in 8 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Wildcats (0-3). Blane Sturm added two hits and a run scored and Austin Rose a hit and a run scored.

Liberty wins

Luke Mollohan and Aiden Geiger each totaled two hits, including a double, and four RBIs, powering Liberty Christian to a 17-3 victory against visiting Torah Academy.

Mollohan scored four runs, and Caleb Windle added a hit, three runs scored and three RBIs and Mason Kampii a hit, three runs scored and an RBI for the Eagles (1-1). Mollohan and Evan Dupler struck out four in two innings apiece.

Heath beats FCA

Wyatt Binckley struck out 12 in 6 1/3 innings, pitching Heath to a 6-1 victory against Fairfield Christian at Beavers Field.

Jaiden Dansby and Kaden Green each doubled, combining for three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs (2-0). Tannar Patterson added a triple, a run scored and an RBI, Connor Corbett two hits, a run scored and an RBI and Conner Toomey a hit and two runs scored.

Johnstown drops road game

Nash Andrix struck out 12 in 5 1/3 innings for Johnstown in a 5-2 loss at Bexley.

Landon Myers led the Johnnies (1-1) with two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Jacob Myers and Caiden Scholl scored a run apiece.

GCA falls at Millersport

Bentley Johnson struck out eight and allowed two hits and no earned runs in four innings for Granville Christian in a 4-1 loss at Millersport.

Jordan Stump doubled and scored to lead the Lions (0-2). Johnson and Jake Fabbro added a hit apiece.

Hutchinson leads Northridge

Aiden Hutchinson hit a two-run single for Northridge in a 13-3 loss to Breathitt County (Ky.) in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

David Carr and Braxton Ankrom added a hit and a run scored apiece for the Vikings (0-5). Carr struck out one in two no-hit innings of relief.

Heights falls at home

Maxim Fink’s two-run single led Licking Heights in a 13-3 loss to visiting Westerville South.

Jake Lopinto and Tino Martin each added a hit and a run scored and Joel Busker a hit and an RBI for the Hornets (2-2).

SOFTBALL

Ernsberger blanks Northridge

Ally Ernsberger struck out 14 and walked just two, firing a no-hitter for Granville in a 6-0 victory at Northridge to open Licking County League play.

Megan Lodge homered, racking up three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Blue Aces (2-1, 1-0). Ernsberger and Avary King added three hits, including a double, apiece, combining for three RBIs, and Emily Travis added two hits and a run scored and Maia Helling a hit and a run scored.

Gracie Smith struck out one and allowed three earned runs for the Vikings (1-2, 0-1).

Lakewood wins

Rachel Crist homered and doubled for Lakewood, adding two runs scored and two RBIs in an 11-0 victory against visiting Zanesville to open LCL play.

Cora Redman and Lauren Griffith had two hits, including a double, apiece with Redman scoring twice and Griffith driving in three for the Lancers (2-0, 1-0). Carly Williams struck out nine in five two-hit innings.

Watkins rolls

Maleya Thompson’s grand slam highlighted Watkins Memorial’s 18-3 victory against Whitney Young (Ill.) in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Thompson also doubled, piling up six RBIs, and Ava McKee added a double, three runs scored and four RBIs and Kylie Trouten two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs for the Warriors (4-0). Carsyn Cassady struck out two in two one-hit innings.

Johnstown drops road game

Johnstown led 7-1 in the fourth inning before host Olentangy Orange turned the tables, handing the Johnnies a 13-7 defeat.

Addy Zak totaled three hits, including a triple, a run scored and an RBI for the Johnnies (1-1). Aubrey Del Cecato and Peyton Mischel added two hits, a run scored and an RBI apiece.

TRACK

Mitchell wins pair

Isaiah Mitchell won the 100 (11.4) and 200 (23.5) for the Lakewood boys during a meet against host Licking Valley and Sheridan.

Brendan Thorp won the discus (129-3.5) for the Lancers. Individual winners for Valley were Quinn Hornfeck in the 300 hurdles (44.5), Marshall Carr in the high jump (6-0) and Lincoln Clements in the long jump (19-9.5).

In the girls meet, Lakewood's Jaylie Maas won the 100 (13.5), and Valley's Allison Osborn won the shot put (28-8).
