Roundup: Newark softball falls in slugfest in OHSAA tournament opener
Lexi Shanaberg’s three hits led an 11-hit attack Tuesday for the Newark softball team, which fell 13-11 at Big Walnut in a Division I first-round game.
Shanaberg, who doubled, scored two runs and drove in one for the No. 26 Wildcats (8-14). Lauren Queen added two hits, including a double, two runs and two RBIs, Emma Quackenbush two hits, a run and an RBI, Lillyana Holmes a triple, two runs and an RBI, Mallory Back a hit and two runs and Savannah Woody a hit and two RBIs.
No. 24 Licking Heights (14-11) visits the No. 21 Eagles at 5 p.m. Thursday.
BASEBALL
Johnstown edged
Three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for host Centerburg sent Johnstown to a 5-2 defeat.
Nash Andrix struck out seven and allowed five hits and three earned runs for the Johnnies (6-16). Erik Marohl doubled twice, Jacob Myers also doubled and Caiden Scholl and Sam Marasek scored a run apiece.
GCA falls on road
Andrew Benvie struck out four and allowed five hits and one earned run in six innings for Granville Christian in a 2-0 loss at Mount Gilead.
Jake Fabbro doubled for the Lions (13-4). Josiah Green and Josh Benvie each singled.
Newark drops home game
Four errors led to eight unearned runs for visiting Olentangy Liberty as Newark fell 10-0.
Blane Sturm singled for the Wildcats (15-8).
