Roundup: Heath baseball clinches piece of Licking County League-Cardinal title

Wyatt Binckley struck out 14 against just one walk on Tuesday, firing a one-hit shutout for the Heath baseball team in a 7-0 victory at Licking Heights to clinch at least a share of the Licking County League-Cardinal Division championship.

Tannar Patterson doubled and singled, totaling two runs and three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs (17-2, 11-1), who win an outright title with a victory Wednesday at Watkins Memorial. Kaden Green added a double, two runs and two RBIs and Carter Mason a hit and an RBI.

Carson Johnson doubled for the Hornets (5-14, 3-8). Johnny Morgan struck out three in three hitless innings of relief.

Valley wins late

Brody Lambert’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Licking Valley a 4-3 victory against visiting Zanesville (4-13, 1-10) in LCL-Buckeye play.

Trent Clark, who scored the winning run, tripled and singled and drove in a run for the Panthers (16-1, 10-1), who can clinch at least a share of a Buckeye title with a win against visiting Utica on Wednesday, and Lambert added a second hit and Gunner Bowman a hit and a run. Hayden Rodgers struck four in four one-hit innings of relief.

Granville wins at home

Wilson Wells struck out eight with just one walk in a three-hitter, pitching Granville to a 6-1 victory against visiting Buckeye Valley.

Wells also doubled twice as a part of a 3 for 3 day and scored twice for the Blue Aces (10-8). Cooper Silverman added two hits, including a double, a run and two RBIs and Cash Thomas a hit, a run and an RBI.

GCA beats Madison

Bentley Johnson totaled two hits, three runs and an RBI, fueling Granville Christian in a 9-5 victory against Madison Christian at Groveport in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Josiah Green added a triple and a single, a run and two RBIs and Andrew Benvie and Jake Fabbro a hit and two runs apiece for the first-place Lions (10-3, 8-1). Benvie also struck out 10 and allowed three earned runs in 6 1/3 innings.

Liberty wins on road

Caleb Windle piled up three hits, two runs and two RBIs, leading Liberty Christian to a 12-4 win at Mansfield Christian.

Luke Mollohan added three hits, including a double, and three runs, Mason Kamppi two hits and two runs and Aiden Geiger two hits and a run for the Eagles (6-9). Geiger also struck out nine and allowed two earned runs in six six-hit innings.

Utica edged on road

Two sixth-inning runs for Marysville sent visiting Utica to a 4-3 defeat.

Gaige Spray totaled two hits and an RBI, Roman Gamble a hit and two runs and Gavin Tussey a double and a run for Utica (9-10). Braxton Fisher struck out two and allowed one earned run in five three-hit innings.

SOFTBALL

Heights beats Valley

Lydia Rauch notched a team-best three hits with a run and an RBI, powering Licking Heights to a 9-2 victory against visiting Licking Valley in LCL-Buckeye play.

Lily Meidl tripled and doubled and scored two runs and drove in two for the Hornets (13-10, 6-6), and Ava Von Bargen added two hits, two runs and an RBI, Alissa West a solo home run and Kelsey Carter a triple and a run. Rauch and Chesney McPeck combined to strike out five.

D’Neya Dennis led the Panthers (13-8, 7-5) with two hits and a run. Tori Baughman added two hits and an RBI and Liz Korns and Taylor Penick two hits apiece.

NC wins

Maris Knowlton doubled and singled and recorded two runs and two RBIs for Newark Catholic in an 8-4 victory against visiting Centerburg.

Veronica Bailey added a double, two runs and an RBI, and Kylie Gibson, Kami Diaz and Joanna Bailey a hit, a run and an RBI each for the Green Wave (15-7). Avery Nagel struck out three.

Watkins blanks Gahanna

Carsyn Cassady struck out 12 without a walk, firing a one-hit six-inning shutout in Watkins Memorial’s 13-0 victory against visiting Gahanna.

Maleya Thompson hit two home runs, driving in four runs for the No. 1 Warriors (22-0). Ali Langwasser homered and doubled as a part of a 4 for 4 day, driving in five, and Kendal Tellings added two doubles and a run and Ava McKee a double, a run and two RBIs.

Lakewood drops home game

Rachel Crist recorded two hits and two runs for Lakewood in an 11-4 loss to visiting Bishop Watterson.

Dani Stewart added two hits, inclunding a triple, and an RBI, Jaycie Montie a triple and a double and Cora Redman a hit, a run and an RBI for the Lancers (11-7).

Johnstown edged on road

Ava Peterman hit a solo home run for Johnstown in a 5-3 loss at Olentangy Liberty.

Riley Stefanick added a hit and a run and Peyton Mischel a hit and an RBI for the Johnnies (5-18). Stefanick also struck out four and allowed three earned runs in six innings.

Liberty falls

Cara Denlinger had a hit and a walk for Liberty Christian (0-9) in a 25-3 loss to visiting Mansfield Christian.

BOYS LACROSSE

Johnstown slips past Valley

James Swick’s goal off a pass from McKaden Thomas with 2:04 left gave Johnstown a 9-8 victory at Licking Valley (1-13).

Will Taylor led the Johnnies (7-5) with five goals, and Swick added a three goals, an assist and a 70% win rate on faceoffs and Thomas a goal. Ben Smith made 13 saves.

TRACK

Watkins boys win

Aidan Johnston cleared 13-feet-3 in the pole vault, leading the host Watkins Memorial boys to a victory against Licking Valley and Granville.

Troy Blankenship in the 110 hurdles (16.42), Nick Beres in the 1,600 (4:52.45), John Apel in the 800 (2:01.11) and Joe McIntosh in the 200 (22.80) also won individually for the Warriors, who totaled 79 points, finishing ahead of Valley’s 55 and Granville’s 40.

Winning individually for Valley were Trevor Croak in the shot put (54-11.5) and discus (151-5), Quinn Hornfeck in the 300 hurdles (40.95) and long jump (19-5) and Landon Thompson in the 3,200 (11:20.23).

Winning individually for Granville were Owen Kirkham in the 100 (11.84), Nolan Cheney in the 400 (51.32) and Cade Roberts in the high jump (6-3).

In the girls meet, Audrey Ames was a double individual winner in the 100 hurdles (17.79) and 300 hurdles (50.28), leading Granville, which totaled 95 points, ahead of Watkins’ 44 and Valley’s 29.5.

Also winning individually for Granville were Caitriona Sproul in the 100 (12.89), Lily Kronk in the 1,600 (5:47.54), Avery Ogg in the 400 (1:01.50), Sophia Poling in the 800 (2:31.83), Hope Mahl in the 200 (27.05), Margaret McDonald in the 3,200 (12:52.05), Addison McClelland in the high jump (4-8) and Annie McCracken and Nina Brechler, who tied in the pole vault (9-0).

Individual winner for Watkins was Ellah Bigham in the long jump (15-10). Winning for Valley was Peyton Robey in the shot put (30-7) and discus (92-6).

Heath wins four

The Heath boys won four events during a meet at Bloom-Carroll with New Albany and the Ohio School for the Deaf.

Winners for the Bulldogs were Brayden Bayles in the long jump (21-feet-2), Joshua Jones in the high jump (6-0), Tyler Hudson in the pole vault (11-10) and Jacob Montag in the 3,200 (13:10.08).

In the girls meet, Heath’s Jaylynne Boland won the pole vault (6-0).
