Roundup: Diamond wars end; golfers go for it; regoinal, state track

Following is a roundup of prep sports from this past week:

BARTLESVILLE GIRLS GOLF: Going to state has become a habit for Eve Vaclaw. For the second-straight season the sharp-striking junior qualified for the Big Swing, which was held earlier this week in Stillwater. Vaclaw fired 102-105 to shoot 207 and finish in the top 70. She had qualified for state by shooting 91 at the regional. Coach Andy Thurman is set to return his entire team for next year.

BARTLESVILLE BOYS GOLF: Jay Wasemiller is finishing his freshman campaign in the company of the best 6A linksters in the state. Wasemiller shot 76 at this week’s regionals to clinch a spot in next week’s state meet. Other Bruin regional scores were: Nash Zervas (85), Lucas Wyatt (88), Cooper Wood (108) and Reid Ryal (126). All but Wood are set to return next season, coach Carl Holmes said. In the Bixby meet late last month, Wasemiller fired 77, followed by Wyatt (85), Zervas (91), Ryal (109) and Wood (116). At the conference competition, Wasemiller came in at 79, followed by Zervas (84), Wyatt (86), Ryal (108) and Will Patton (118).

BARTLESVILLE BOYS SOCCER: Coach Cedric Muteshi has much to look forward to next season after his Bruins suffered close playoff elimination against Yukon, 3-2. At least nine of Bartlesville's matches were decided by one goal or a shootout.

BARTLESVILLE SOFTBALL: The Lady Bruins (22-12) saw their first-ever trip to the state tournament end in a 13-1 quarterfinal loss to No. 1 ranked Choctaw. Early mistakes allowed Choctaw to build a big lead, BHS coach Kyle Minton said, adding he was proud of his team. He bids goodbye to only two seniors, Chelsea Goddard and Allie Scullawl. A team highlight this year was hitting approximately 60 homers, compared to 15 or 16 the previous year.
