Here’s a roundup of recent retail activity around Whatcom County:

A new furniture consignment store has opened in Bellingham. Furnishings Now is at 1619 Kentucky St., in the former Birch Equipment space. Birch Equipment moved to a nearby building on Iowa Street.

Along with furniture the store has a variety of home decor and art, according to its Facebook page.

Northwest Yarns is expanding and changing its name to better reflect what it sells.

The store is expanding into the former Black Drop space at 206 W. Magnolia St. According to a news release, the company will open its expanded space on Wednesday, July 20, and have a grand opening celebration on Sept. 2.

The company is changing its name to Northwest Yarns & Mercantile. Its expanded inventory will include more yarn, fiber and kits. It will also be adding fabric, sewing, basketry and lace-making supplies.

The expanded store will also have a loom/spinning wheel showroom, classrooms and a coffee shop. Details and updates can be found on its Instagram page.

Renaissance Celebration in Fairhaven has begun a retirement sale.

The gift shop, known for its glass artwork and jewelry and recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in Fairhaven, announced in a social media post that the retirement sale will last through September. Owner James Might said many of the items in the store are on sale for 20% off the regular price.

Menace Brewing announced that it has a new addition to its food truck rotation. Stella Sopra Italian Food Truck will regularly be at the brewery on Tuesdays through October. Based in Mount Vernon, Stella Sopra’s menu includes handmade ravioli, cannelloni and manicotti.

Wood Coffee has broken ground on a new cafe in Everett. According to The Everett Herald the cafe is part of a retail center called Port Gardner Landing, which is at 1710 W. Marine View Drive. The cafe will be near a new brewery also under construction, called Sound 2 Summit Craft Brewing.

According to the article, Woods Coffee and the brewery are aiming to be open in March 2023.

Bellingham’s West Coast Pops is for sale. The current ownership of the gourmet ice cream bar company is making plans for new adventures, according to a Facebook post. Inquiries about the company can be sent by email to info@westcoastpops.com.

Serendipity, a consignment store in Fairhaven, recently expanded its hours and is accepting summer items.

The clothing store is now open every day 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1201 11th St. closing an hour earlier on Sunday. It is accepting new consignments by appointment only.

The new tamale and brewery that’s going into the Sunnyland neighborhood is aiming for an early fall opening.

According to an Instagram post from Frelard Tamales, the company doesn’t have a firm opening date yet as it deals with the global supply chain issues while going through the permitting process. In its last update, the company was aiming for a summer 2022 opening.

Along with tamales, the warehouse at 1926 Humboldt St. will be home to El Suenito Brewing Company.

For those ready to do summer hikes up by the Mt. Baker Ski Area, the Heather Meadows Cafe is open for the summer season through Sept. 11. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday through Monday. It’s on the second floor of the Heather Meadows Day Lodge. Menu items include packed lunches, soup and drinks.
