Unresponsive driver who later died in Santa Paula named

Authorities identified the Ventura man who died Friday after he suffered a medical problem while driving in Santa Paula.

Jerome D. Moses, 66, died of heart problems after stopping his vehicle on Highway 126 near Briggs Road, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office and the California Highway Patrol. His manner of death was deemed natural, the medical examiner's office said.

CHP originally said Moses was from Santa Barbara.

An off-duty CHP officer happened upon Moses' vehicle stopped in the right lane shortly before 7 a.m. Friday, CHP said. The officer performed CPR on an unresponsive Moses.

Ambulance crews soon arrived and also attempted life-saving measures before transporting the driver to Santa Paula hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There was no collision during the incident and little impact on traffic, CHP said Friday.

Authorities ID man killed by train in Ventura

A 55-year-old homeless man who was killed Oct. 13 after being struck by an Amtrak train in Ventura was identified by authorities.

Ronnie Rivera died in the incident around 9:30 p.m. along railroad tracks below the bridge under Telephone Road, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office and the Ventura Police Department. The area is near OIivas Park Drive and south of Market Street.

The cause and manner of Rivera's death have not yet been determined, the medical examiner's office said. The man had been on the tracks Ventura police said at the time.

No passengers or crew on the train were injured, police said.
