Round Rock distance runner Kebede Kerlin, who qualified for the UIL state track and field meet by winning the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at his Class 6A regional meet, was voted the Covert Chevrolet Bastrop Austin-Area Boys Athlete of the Week for April 15-20.

Kerlin received 50.5% of the vote. Glenn shot putter Cameron Morrison, Rouse 3,200 runner Edwin Rotich, Stony Point long jumper Joseph West and Georgetown distance runner Joseph Wienen also were candidates. McCallum pitcher Sam Stevens won the previous poll, for April 8-13.

The American-Statesman will have a weekly vote for Boys Athlete of the Week and Girls Athlete of the Week throughout the academic year.
