Ross Butler reveals 13 Reasons Why influence on new movie Perfect Addiction

Ross Butler has opened up about the influence 13 Reasons Why had on his new movie Perfect Addiction, explaining that there were "parallels" between his two characters in both projects.

Butler played Zach Dempsey in Netflix's 13 Reasons Why and also appeared in To All the Boys I've Loved Before. However, Butler exclusively told Digital Spy that he took more from the former than he did from the latter.

"I would say I took more from 13 Reasons Why into this than To All the Boys because that was a series and there was a lot of character development. And then being the lead of a film you have to be more efficient with developing your character," Butler said.

"There were actually parallels between Zack Dempsey and Kayden Williams that I saw that actually helped a lot with the guilt and not being able to forgive yourself. But with Kayden it was just much more personal and accelerated. So I felt like I had a nice runway with 13 Reasons Why to create Kayden."

Butler is also known for playing Adult Eugene in Shazam, and reprised the role in the Worlds of DC sequel Shazam: Fury of the Gods, that he starred in opposite some A-list co-stars including Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu.

Butler told Digital Spy that he "geeked out" at getting to work with legends such as Mirren and Liu.

"Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren joined on, who are both legends. I got to meet them both on the same day in the same minute and I geeked out," Butler said.

"And Rachel Zegler, she's a new part of the cast and she's Snow White! We have so many cool additions and the new super-suits are so sleek."

However, he was more coy about the details of the movie itself.

"I cannot say anything about it, but you get to see more of the kids as superheroes, finally. It's been something that we've really been wanting to show you guys more of, and you get to see the teamwork within the family."

Perfect Addiction is released on Prime Video on March 24.
