Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. is heading into his first big-league season without veteran first baseman Freddie Freeman as his teammate.

That fact doesn’t seem to bother the two-time All-Star/former rookie of the year.

During an Instagram Live interview on Wednesday night, Acuna described his somewhat contentious relationship with Freeman.

Earlier this offseason, Freeman left the Braves organization after 12 years to join the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency. When asked what he’ll miss most about the 2020 NL MVP, Acuna gave a blunt response.

“Nothing,” he said.

“We were close in that we shared the same stadium but we had a lot of, how do you say… A lot of clashes,” he continued, as translated by MLB insider Alden Gonzalez.

Acuna then went on to explain one of these “clashes.”

“That’s happened throughout time,” he said. “When you come up as a rookie, there’s always someone who [wants to tell you how to do things]. You come up from the minor leagues with the big eye black, the sunglasses, the low hat, and a lot of people see that as wrong… A lot of veterans [picked on me] when I was a rookie and they called me into the office themselves and told me ‘No, you can’t use that,’ and they took it off me with a towel like that. And I said ‘OK, that’s fine.’

“I can’t say anything, you know? I can’t say anything,” he continued. “I just said, ‘One day I’ll be a veteran.’ I’m not saying I’m a veteran right now, but nobody’s going to take the eye black off my face now, you know?”

Of course, MLB fans have taken these comments and run with them.

Acuna himself responded to people on Twitter who he feels have misinterpreted his statements.

“I NEVER SAY THAT,” the 24 year old wrote alongside some clown emojis.

With Freeman gone, Acuna could step into an increased leadership role for the Braves this coming season.
