Rolling Stones bring generations of fans together for MetLife Stadium show

EAST RUTHERFORD − Generations of people gathered Thursday at MetLife Stadium as one of the greatest classic rock bands of all time, the Rolling Stones, came to town.

The Stones are playing two shows at MetLife as part of the "Hackney Diamonds" tour.

The iconic band has been together since the 60s, inspiring many dedicated fans over the years. Dave Plaskow is one of them, he's seen 10 shows and is going to Atlanta to see his next after Thursday's.

“We were just reminiscing about how we saw the stones opening night in Philadelphia 1989,” Plaskow said.

Another longtime fan Jeff Kaszerman has only seen them three times but that still goes back to 2009.

“... When I was little I used to dream about being able to see them," Kaszerman said.

A group of friends originally from Bergenfield, who all live in different parts of the country now, met up back in Bergen County Thursday for the show. Among them were Gary Ritkes and Evan Connolly, who are glad to keep their tradition and friendship going on Thursday.

The Stones came to MetLife in 2019 and Mick Jagger famously said they ate at the Tick Tock Diner.

“It's great to be here in New Jersey, we're really loving it here,” said Jagger from the stage on Aug. 1, 2019. “It's the health food capital of the USA, right? So we went to the Tick Tock Diner and we had Taylor ham, egg and cheese! With disco fries! And sloppy joe to go!”

Instead of following suit some fans instead ate in the parking lot Thursday grilling for a traditional tailgate experience.

It was an experience some Stones fans were able to pass on to future generations. Joe and Lauri Gerardiello of Sparta came to Thursday's show with their two daughters. The couple said they grew up listening to the band’s music and have been in love with them since. Now, they have passed their fandom off to their children as well.

They said they can’t wait to have the experience of watching them perform as it’s almost everyone’s first show. but the mother’s second. Some of the couple’s favorite songs that they can’t wait to hear are "Gimme Shelter," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," among so many more.

The Rolling Stones comes a week after Morgan Wallen performed at MetLife, continuing the summer concert series.
