The Rock hasn't been a full-timer (or even a part-timer) in the WWE for a very long time, but there are still few wrestlers who can pop a crowd like The Great One.

That was proved not for the first time last week on SmackDown, when the Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment dropped by in Denver to hit a People's Elbow on Austin Theory.

You can hear the reaction from the crowd for yourselves, and the WWE claims that the memorable comeback has been viewed over 100 million times over its various channels.

In a lot of ways the return makes perfect sense.

Dwayne Johnson's movie career is very much on hold with the ongoing strikes in Hollywood (which have also seen a medium-term comeback for another wrestler-turned-actor John Cena), so he's got some time spare.

And more than that, The Rock has long shied away from talk of his inevitable WWE Hall of Fame induction, being adamant that he's still got enough in the tank to consider himself a serious player.

Then there's the family matter of The Rock and Roman Reigns.

There have been murmurs of a massive match-up between the Anoa'i family brethren for quite a while, and especially since the poorly-received Rock/Reigns moment at the 2015 Royal Rumble.

Since then it all seemed to go quiet, and with the rise and rise of Cody Rhodes the smart money is on a Rhodes/Reigns rematch at WMXL.

But after last Friday night, could those plans – if they even exist – be ripped up for a cross-generational, era-straddling battle of the ages?

It's even possible that without the full backing of The Bloodline, that Roman Reigns might lose to Rhodes before WrestleMania.

And it's hardly like a Reigns/Rock match needs the title on the line.

The Rock's last "match" came at WrestleMania 32, where he embarrassed Erick Rowan in a squash. We're not counting that and nor should you.

His last bout before that? At WrestleMania once more, when – as champion – he lost the strap to John Cena at WrestleMania 29.

So, 11 years after his last real match in the WWE, there's talk of another WrestleMania main event for The Rock on the Grandest Stage of them All.

We'll be watching this space.
