Robinson sees whole floor and makes things easy for Ross teammates

Fremont Ross has been rather dominant this season.

The trend continued Thursday with a 62-35 victory over Napoleon in the Northern Lakes League Cardinal Division. The Little Giants got out to a 21-7 lead after the first quarter and didn’t let up.

Ross kept its foot on the gas throughout the game on the back of double-digit scoring performances by Destiny Robinson (23 points), Carma Johnson (12) and Lyndi Wolf (13).

“We share the ball very well”, Ross center Lyndi Wolf said. “Everybody is scoring, and we do a really good job of moving the ball, getting everyone touches and keeping the floor spread.”

Robinson, who continues her career at Toledo, impressed with her vision and playmaking. She drove or passed up an open shot for a corner 3-pointer throughout the game.

She’ll make a pass nobody sees coming. Ross spread the floor and exploited space in the defense and the Little Giants moved the ball crisply to prevent the opposition from getting comfortable.

She has a nasty crossover and you can see her ability to see the floor in front of her. She makes decisions and makes things happen instead of reacting to the defense.

She makes it easy for her teammates to score creating shots for them with little bounce passes. She helps make Ross unpredictable and everyone is involved.

The Little Giants look to add to their three-game winning streak as they visit Toledo Whitmer on Monday and Sylvania Springfield on Thursday. Springfield has one loss in the NLL Cardinal Division.

Ross (11-3, 6-0) never trailed in the game Thursday and only allowed 14 points in the first half. Napoleon outscored the Little Giants in the second half 21-20, but the game was already out of reach.

“Basketball is such a rhythm thing, Little Giants coach Juan Vela said. “A lot of times teams will throw stuff at us to try and shake us out of that rhythm. We just have to find our rhythm and stay there.”

Ross lost to Anthony Wayne, Margaretta and Berlin Hiland. The Little Giants beat Tiffin Columbian out of conference and Findlay, Sylvania Northview, Whitmer and Perrysburg in NLL crossover games with the Buckeye Division.

Last season, Ross reached regional for the first time in program history. The Little Giants established a program record with 22 wins and were contenders the final season in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

“We want to get to regional again,” Vela said. “First, we need to win league, but we want to reach a new high for the program. Those have been our goals since the start of the season.”
