There are a number of parallels between the careers of Baker Mayfield and Robert Griffin III. Today, RG3 decided to weigh in on the situation that his Heisman brother finds himself in.

Taking to Twitter, Griffin pointed out that the Browns should have traded Mayfield before signing newly-acquired quarterback Deshaun Watson to his long-term deal. He said that the Browns now find themselves effectively stuck with him due to decisions they’ve made.

“The Browns needed to trade Baker Mayfield before the ink dried on Deshaun Watson’s contract. Instead, they trashed Baker in the media, aided in killing his trade value and are stuck with a QB they don’t want,” Griffin wrote.

Common wisdom would say that Griffin is right on the money with that analysis. The Browns may have made a tactical error by keeping Mayfield on their roster after announcing the Watson trade.

Between Mayfield’s salary and how long it took for the Browns to make it happen, there are virtually no teams banging on their door to offer any sort of compensation for the former No. 1 overall draft pick.

In 2016, the Washington Redskins released Robert Griffin III just four years after drafting him in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft and letting him lead them to the playoffs.

Mayfield finds himself in a similar situation where he’s being cast aside after four years and once looking like the franchise’s savior.

But the good news for Mayfield is that he isn’t dealing with the same nagging injuries that effectively halted RG3’s career. He can still play at a relatively high level in the NFL if his rehab goes well – and he finds a decent team.

That team won’t be the Cleveland Browns though.
