Robert Fuller, Black man found hanged in California, died by suicide: sheriff

Robert Fuller, the 24-year-old man found hanging in a California park in June died by suicide, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Commander Chris Marks.

Speaking at a news conference Thursday, Marks said Fuller had a history of mental health struggles and once admitted himself to a California hospital because he was “hearing voices, telling telling himself to kill himself.”

Fuller was also “treated at a hospital in Nevada for suicidal ideation and depression, he disclosed that he did have a plan to kill himself” in November, according to Marks.

Fuller also appeared to have bought a rope at a local Dollar Tree store in May.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office declared his death a suicide after performing an autopsy.

Fuller’s June 10 came during the first few weeks of the racial injustice protests sparked by George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis in May. His death was a number of hangings that immediately drew suspicion.

Fuller’s family and friends have maintained he was not suicidal.
