Road construction near Santa Fe Community College resumes Monday

Mar. 12—Crews will resume construction soon on two major Santa Fe County road projects intended to improve the traffic flow near Santa Fe Community College.

Road paving will begin Monday on the northeast connector from east of Richards Avenue to Rabbit Road. Public access to the work zones will be "strictly prohibited," the county said in a news release.

Officials will also place barricades along the southeast connector, south of Rabbit Road to Avenida del Sur, and on Avenida del Sur east of Richards Avenue to the connector.

After the project is completed, the northeast connector will repurpose Rabbit Road to become the south-side frontage road of Interstate 25 between Richards Avenue and St. Francis Drive, extending from Dinosaur Trail to Rabbit Road. The southeast connector will extend along a power line easement to just south of College Drive, continue south to the Avenida del Sur intersection and turn west along Avenida del Sur to Richards Avenue.

About 95% of the earthwork for the project has been completed and 85% of waterline and drainage culverts have been installed, with two of six roundabouts open to traffic, the news release said.
