Riverdale star Cole Sprouse is starring in a new adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and the movie has now been given an official US release date.

Lisa Frankenstein is the latest film version of the classic book and American fans can see it upon release on February 9, 2024. However, there is no confirmed UK release date yet – we will update fans with that information as it comes out.

Focus Features, the production company behind the film, confirmed the US release date in a tweet, writing: "It's giving [lightning bolt emoji] unliving LISA FRANKENSTEIN only in theaters 2.9.24. written by diablo cody & directed by @zeldawilliams."

This version is set in 1989 and follows an unpopular high school girl (Lisa) who accidentally brings a Victorian corpse back to life during a lightning storm and proceeds to turn him into her dream man using a tanning bed in her garage.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Kathryn Newton features as the titular Lisa. It is so far unknown who Sprouse plays, but it could well be the re-animated corpse. The film also stars The Haunting of Hill House actress Carla Gugino.

Lisa Frankenstein comes from director Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late Robin Williams. While she has previously helmed several short films, this is her feature film directorial debut.

She is also an actress and is best known for her roles in Jane the Virgin and The Legend of Korra. Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody, of Juno fame, has penned the script.

This is another exciting upcoming movie for Kathryn Newton, who earlier this year landed a role in a monster thriller movie from the makers of Scream VI filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
