CANTON − The Rite Aid at 114 12th St. NE will join the growing list of shuttered stores.

The Canton store was one of 16 additional closures announced Tuesday in federal bankruptcy court documents. It comes a week after the corporation announced the closure of 13 stores that included a Massillon location.

It's the sixth store in Stark County to close since last fall. Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy in October amid lawsuits related to its role in the opioid epidemic, billions of dollars of debt and declining sales.

The newly announced closures include a store in Dayton and others in Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, California and Virginia. Reports indicate that Rite Aid has closed more than 200 stores nationwide as part of the bankruptcy proceedings.

The Canton store's last day will be June 16 but the pharmacy will close on May 16, according to a company spokeswoman.
