Rising YouTube star and makeup influencer Mel Thompson dies at 35

Makeup and beauty guru Mel Thompson, a rising social media star with more than 170,000 YouTube subscribers, died Sunday at 35.

Her husband, Puffin Thompson, confirmed the news in an emotional Instagram post. The cause of death was not immediately clear.

“We lost a beautiful person,” Puffin wrote in a lengthy message posted Monday to his late wife’s account, captioning a series of 10 photos “to show the smiles she brought.”

“I’ve had to answer so many texts of people just checking in on her without even knowing of her passing. It’s great to see how loved she was. And she loved all you right back,” he added.

Thompson’s last YouTube video, uploaded on Friday, shows the Tennessee-born makeup artist demonstrating a new eye shadow palette from famed U.K. makeup star Wayne Goss, whom she referred to as a “really good friend of mine.”

Writing in the comments section of the video, which has been watched more than 80,000 as of Tuesday morning, Goss wrote that he is “absolutely devastated” with the news.

“She brought such kindness to not only my life but many, many people out there. Mel truly was a beautiful kind human,” his message reads in part.

Besides makeup tutorials on YouTube and Instagram, last year Thompson released Tiny Marvels, an eye shadow palette which was done in collaboration with California-based makeup company Sydney Grace.

“I’ll continue to love her and miss her forever. She was such a pillar for our family,” Puffin wrote on Instagram.

“Everybody knows how talented she was as an artist and with her helpful knowledge, but those closest to her know how truly wonderful she was. She would have done anything to help anyone without a second thought,” he added. “I wish I had her back.”
