Riley Weiss of North Broward Prep sets school records in basketball. Plus soccer and wrestling

It’s been a formidable start of the season for the North Broward Prep girls’ basketball team with one of its own breaking school records in a win against Boca Raton Christian.

That was followed by a 62-24 victory over Gulliver Prep to improve the Eagles to 2-1.

North Broward Prep coach Gardner Michel said: “We played solid defense as a team [against Gulliver Prep], led by a solid all-around performance by Riley Weiss. Alexa Schwartz helped control the tempo and led us rebounding. Kaydie Sturm contributed by knocking down shots from beyond the arc.”

Speaking of Weiss, the senior and Columbia University commit set three school marks in the 83-44 victory over Boca Raton Christian. She scored 50 points, made nine 3-pointers and recorded 12 steals.

North Broward Prep’s lone setback is to traditional strong Miami Country Day.

Palmer Trinity’s girls beat a team from Australia, which has also competed in Boston and New York.

On the boys’ side, freshman Jason Martinez excelled in his varsity debut for winning Westwood Christian against BridgePrep Academy. Gullier Prep won a close one against Benjamin School from North Palm Beach.
