Good news, demigods. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians universe is officially expanding.

On October 18, Rick Riordan, author of the best-selling fantasy-adventure series, announced that a sixth (!!) Percy Jackson book is on the way. Titled Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Chalice of the Gods, the new installment will hit shelves on September 26, 2023.

“Nearly a decade after the release of THE BLOOD OF OLYMPUS, Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood will star in a brand new adventure from Rick Riordan!,” the author’s Twitter account shared. “PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS: THE CHALICE OF THE GODS will go on sale September 26, 2023!”

On his website, Riordan dived into the book’s storyline. Percy is now a senior at Alternative High School, and is trying to get accepted into college. (The author notes that The Chalice of the Gods takes place after the events of The Heroes of Olympus, but before The Trials of Apollo.)

“New Rome University requires recommendation letters from three gods, which means… yep, you guessed it. Percy has to run quests to get the letters,” Riordan wrote.

“First quest: the cupbearer of the gods, Ganymede, is missing his chalice. Not only is this embarrassing. It’s also a potential disaster, since any mortal who happens to drink from the cup will gain immortality. Percy, Annabeth and Grover have to find that chalice and return it to Ganymede before anyone realizes he lost it. These gods… they really need GPS tags on their magic items, don’t they?,” he continued.

The news arrives as we wait for the highly anticipated release of the small-screen adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. The series, which follows 12-year-old Percy as he discovers that he’s half-mortal and half-god, doesn’t have an official release date yet. But Riordan expects that it’ll hit the streaming service in early 2024.
