Monday, March 25

Madison 6, Ontario 5

The Madison Rams took home a solid 6-5 nonconference victory over Ontario on opening day of the 2024 high school softball season.

Izzy Wamsley had a huge debut for the Rams with four hits while Ashley Markely added two and Emily Nolan, Kyleigh Reiter and Emma Stankovich had one hit apiece. Markley had three RBIs while Wamsley, Reiter and Campbell Kiser had one RBI apiece in the win. Layla Azmoun picked up the win in the circle allowing five runs, just two earned, on 10 hits with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Trista Jewell, Kennedy Weiler and Brinlee Kreger had two hits apiece for the Warriors while Piper Studer, Eden Howard, Autumn Taylor and Maddie Mullens had one hit apiece. Weiler had two RBIs while Taylor, Millins and Kreger had one apiece. Taylor look the loss in the circle allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts. Howard worked the final three innings allowing just two hits with three strikeouts.

The Rams are 1-0 and travel to New Philadelphia on Tuesday. Ontario is 0-1 and hosts River Valley on Tuesday.

Crestview 12, Black River 2

The Crestview Cougars cruised to an opening day victory over Black River on Monday, 12-2.

Sophie Durbin had one hit, two steals and two runs scored while Chesnie Patton had two hits an an RBI, PJ Endicott added one hit and one RBI, Kalee Hamman added one hit, a triple, an RBI and a run scored and Allison Volz had two hits with a triple and three runs. Maddie Grant added two hits, both doubles, with four RBIs while Makeena Tackett had one hit, one run and one RBI to her credit. Jillian Weaver also scored a run.

Patton took the win in the circle allowing two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts in six innings of work.

The Cougars are 1-0 and travel to Norwalk on Tuesday.

Shelby 8, Norwalk 1

The Shelby Whippets cruised to a season-opening win over Norwalk, 8-1, in nonconference action on Monday.

Maggie Bogner, Natalie Kennard and Mallary Gundrum led the way with two hits apiece while Kendal Parsons, Katie Taylor, Adey Cornette and Braylee Sturts had one hit apiece. Sturts collected two RBIs while Kennard and Gundrum had one apiece. Sturts slugged a home run in the victory.

Lexi Booker picked up the win in the circle allowing one run on four hits in 6 ⅔ innings with 10 strikeouts.

The Whippets improve to 1-0 and travel to Marion Harding on Tuesday.

Triway 7, Clear Fork 0

The Clear Fork Colts took a tough 7-0 opening day loss to Triway in nonconference action Monday evening.

The Colts did not record a hit and had 15 strikeouts.

They fall to 0-1 and travel to Galion on Tuesday.

Colonel Crawford 15, Plymouth 13

The Plymouth Big Red took a tough 15-13 loss to Colonel Crawford on Monday in nonconference action.

Jaylin Branham led the Big Red with three hits while Kendyl Tolbert had two hits and Emily Irven, Madison Montgomery and Lily Cook had one hit apiece. Branham had three RBIs while Tolbert, Montgomery, Cailynn Bailey and Cook had one RBI apiece. Branham had a home run for the Big Red.

Plymouth is 0-1 and hosts Crestline on Wednesday.
