A Rex Hudler story during KC Royals game briefly knocked Ryan Lefebvre off the air

You never know what you’ll see when you go to a baseball game, and if you watch the Royals on Bally Sports Kansas City, you never know what you’ll hear.

Broadcaster Rex Hudler has spun some great tales through the years. He’s talked about wearing pantyhose as a player, putting avocado on his pizza, and once famously called the moon a planet.

But a comment Tuesday night during the Royals’ 7-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Kauffman Stadium may have taken the cake.

Royals starting pitcher Jonathan Heasely brought new meaning to the word hurler, as he vomited three times behind the mound before being pulled from the game.

“Three pukes and you’re out,” Hudler wryly noted.

That wasn’t the comment that had Royals fans and fellow Bally Sports Kansas City broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre laughing.

While commiserating with Heasley, Hudler noted that players sometimes go through this sort of thing. In fact it happened to him.

“It happens, but not a lot. You know, you’ve got nerves, you’ve got heat, you’ve got a lot of elements,” Hudler said. “It’s happened to me before — but the other end.

“And it was hard, man. It was tough. The camera wasn’t on me like they are on the pitcher.”

Fox 4 Sports Director Rob Collins shared a clip of the moment, and you can hear laughing in the background. That was Lefebvre.

Heasley ending up walking Geraldo Perdomo and Hudler did the play-by-play because Lefebvre couldn’t stop giggling. When the next batter came to the plate, Lefebvre was back on the air.

“I think I’m back now by the way,” he noted.

Royals fans watching at home were laughing along with the broadcasters.
