Here are the results of Saturday's primary elections in Ouachita Parish

Saturday saw voters in Ouachita Parish take to the polls for the primary elections.

Friday Ellis and Gerald Brown won reelection as mayors of Monroe and Richwood. Gretchen Ezernack successfully retained her seat as Council Member for District 2 in the Monroe City Council, emerging victorious over Herb Guillory.

The District 4 seat on the Monroe City Council will be filled Rodney McFarland, who successfully defeated incumbent Carday Marshall. The District 5 seat race will be decided by a runoff between incumbent Kema Dawson and Verbon Muhammad.

Here are the results of all of Saturday's primary municipal elections.

Outright election winners are in Bold and those who qualified for a runoff are in Bold Italic. Those who received more than 50% of the vote won their races. In cases where no one got to 50%, the top two vote-getters go on to face each other in the April 27 general election.

Mayor, City of Monroe

  • Betty Ward Cooper, Democrat − 646 votes, 6%

  • Friday Ellis, Independent − 6,636 votes, 64%

  • "Jamie" Mayo, Democrat − 3,162 votes, 30%

  • Voter Turnout: 33.9%

Mayor, Town of Richwood

  • Gerald Brown, Democrat − 187 votes, 60%

  • Ashley Harris, Democrat − 125 votes, 40%

  • Voter Turnout: 26.9%

Aldermen, Town of Richwood

(5 to be elected)

  • Eric Amaker, Democrat − 119 votes, 10%

  • Wysinger "Pep" Cleveland, Democrat − 134 votes, 11%

  • Janice Fleming, Democrat − 175 votes, 15%

  • Edward L. Harris, Democrat − 121 votes, 10%

  • Ernest Profit, Democrat − 105 votes, 9%

  • Simeon Profit, Democrat − 136 votes, 11%

  • Wilbert Reed, Jr., Democrat − 119 votes, 10%

  • Donald Richard, Democrat − 140 votes, 12%

  • Deneitra L. Ross, Democrat − 145 votes, 12%

  • Voter Turnout: 20.6%

Councilman − District 2, City of Monroe

  • Gretchen Ezernack, Republican − 1,150 votes, 59%

  • Herbert "Herb" Guillory, Independent − 787 votes, 41%

  • Voter Turnout: 37.9%

Councilman − District 4, City of Monroe

  • Marie Brown, Democrat − 169 votes, 12%

  • Carday Marshall, Sr., Democrat − 505 votes, 37%

  • Rodney McFarland, Democrat − 700 votes, 51%

  • Voter Turnout: 23.2%

Councilman − District 5, City of Monroe

  • Kema Dawson, Democrat − 700 votes, 43%

  • Mondrian "Monday" Douglas, Democrat − 51 votes, 3%

  • Carolyn Goodin, Democrat − 415 votes, 25%

  • Verbon Muhammad, Sr., Democrat − 479 votes, 29%

  • Voter Turnout: 27.2%
