Residents deliver: Roadrunner Food Bank collects over 150K pounds of food during 'Stamp Out Hunger' drive

May 14—With the help of the public and the work of U.S. Postal Service letter carriers, Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico collected more than 100,000 pounds in food donations during Saturday's "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive.

Residents in 19 communities in New Mexico left food donations by their mail boxes that were collected by their mail carriers and donated to that community's nearest food pantry or food bank as part of the nation's largest single-day food drive.

In Albuquerque, all of the donated food was delivered to the Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico. In total, 150,100 pounds of nonperishable food was collected by the food bank during the food drive, according to a press release from the Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico on Monday.

"Thank you to everyone who took time to step up and help," Dana Yost, president and CEO of Roadrunner Food Bank, said in the news release. "Whether you gave food or volunteered, it means more meals and access to a variety of food items that the food bank utilizes to provide to people facing hunger in our state."

With the massive influx of donations, Roadrunner is asking anyone who is interested in helping the nonprofit sort through the food to visit www.rrfb.org/cervis and register to become a volunteer.

The food bank is still accepting donations of nonperishable food items, fresh produce and any food items that need to be refrigerated or frozen. All donations can be made directly at Roadrunner Food Bank's office, 5840 Office NE, during business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
