A Terrier-mix dog named Rippy is safe after falling into a working rock quarry in North Canaan, Connecticut. The little dog may have been trapped in the quarry since Saturday night until Tuesday but the rescue workers aren't positive.

The reason this little pup was saved is due to the fact he was barking like crazy in the quarry when a passerby heard him.

According to the Facebook post by North Canaan Animal Control, They that the plant manager told a shelter worker that "they would not be able to get to the dog and that I would need to call the Northwest Rope Rescue Teams. I called dispatch and they were called out to the quarry. They came as soon as they could along with North Canaan Fire Company and North Canaan Ambulance. The Rope Rescue Team had 2 members who repelled roughly 50 ft down to the dog Rippy who fell down the cliff and was stuck. He could have been stuck there since Saturday night but no one will know for sure. Rippy was caught and safely brought back up the cliff."

Two members of a rope team repelled off a cliff to save Rippy.

Rippy's owners were contacted and the dog was safe and sound at home and decompressing. I can't even imagine what was going through that little pup's head!

Even though it sounds like Rippy had this little mis-adventure all by his lonesome, it's always a good idea to take precautions when you take your own pup out for a hike during the warmer months, especially when hiking with steep cliffs and trails.

Tips To Make The Most Out Of Your Dog Hikes

You should always keep your dog on a leash, even if they know to come and stay, because you never know when they may decide to take off after a small animal and end up going somewhere they shouldn't or falling off a trail. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Charge your cell phone and let your friends or family know where you plan on hiking and a rough estimate on when you should return.

Make sure you practice good dog walking etiquette by bringing with waste disposal bags for your pup, and disposing of them in trash cans.

Allow your dog to sniff things while on their walks, because this is one of the ways that dogs explore the world, but make sure your dog doesn't eat anything they find on the trail.

Remember that dogs get thirsty too, so bring along with a collapsable water bowl and some water for your pup. A lot of parks, especially dog parks, have watering stations for pets but it's better to be safe than sorry.

When walking at night, make sure you and your dog both wear something reflective like a leash or harness for them and a jacket for you, so cars can see you in the dark.

If the weather is bad, consider a sweater or raincoat to keep your pup warm and dry.
