'Rescue Me' Actor James McCaffrey Dead at 65

James McCaffrey, a voice actor best known for his roles in the Max Payne video game series, as well as a recurring role in Rescue Me, has died. He was 65.

A representative for McCaffrey confirmed news of his passing with TMZ after Entourage star Kevin Dillon shared a tribute to his late friend on Instagram, writing, in part, "we were lucky to have known you. my best friend you will be missed 🙏🏼."

According to the actor's rep, he'd been battling multiple myeloma—a type of cancer affecting bone marrow and white blood cells—at the time of his death, which occurred on Sunday, Dec. 17, surrounded by his family and friends.

His rep added, "One of Dick Wolf's proteges (Swift Justice), McCaffrey went on to a successful 35 year career in television and film. Trained at the Actor's Studio, he never lost his love for creating characters; however, his good looks often pushed him toward leading man roles."

McCaffrey also voiced roles in the survival horror game Alone in the Dark and the Alan Wake series, but, as his rep noted, he also played a variety of characters on the bigger screens.

He was seen as Jimmy Keefe in 56 episodes of Rescue Me, and had guest spots on Revenge, White CollarLaw & Order: SVUThe Following, Madam Secretary, Jessica Jones, Blue BloodsSuits, and more.

In film, he could be seen in the '90s classic ViperThe Truth About Cats & Dogs, American Splendor, and more.

McCaffrey is survived by his wife, Rochelle Bostrom, and daughter, Tiernan.
