All eyes were on Tom Brady at Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice on Tuesday, as the seven-time Super Bowl champ returned to a team workout for the first time since undergoing fairly significant knee surgery earlier this offseason. Many wondered what role the 43-year-old would take in the Bucs mandatory minicamp this week, with head coach Bruce Arians implying that the veteran quarterback would be spending a decent amount of time on the sidelines.

But on Tuesday, Brady went nearly full steam ahead at the team’s workout. He reportedly participated in all facets of the practice except for one drill period.

NFL Network’s James Palmer had the latest.

“The only period Tom Brady (knee) was held out of today at mini camp was the blitz period,” Palmer reported in a tweet on Tuesday morning. “Brady wanted to do everything and told coaches he’s able to. The doctors have said he is good to go as well, but they’re going to be careful with guys around him during camp. Makes sense.”

Brady appeared to be moving just fine in videos that emerged from Buccaneers minicamp. Arians has to be pleased with his quarterback’s progress so far this offseason with plenty of time left until Week 1.

After winning his seventh Lombardi Trophy and throwing for 4,633 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 2020, Brady revealed that he played through nagging pain in his knee throughout the year. While Arians called the recent surgery just a “clean-up”, the 43-year-old implied it was a bit more serious.

“I was really interested to see how it was going to go because last year just took a lot,” Brady said in mid-May. “Every week, I was kind of tending to my knee and I thought, ‘I’d love to see a season, what it looks like when I can really focus on some other strength stuff that I want to do, some other technique stuff where I’m not just focused on protecting my knee all the time.”

After last year’s performance, Brady will no doubt be hungry for more in 2021. If that’s the case, the Buccaneers should be in good shape to compete for another Super Bowl this season.
