Report Reveals How Long Michael Thomas Will Be Out
The New Orleans Saints will be without all-world wide receiver Michael Thomas for the foreseeable future following an ankle ligament surgery. But one insider has an idea of just when they can expect him back.
According to Saints insider Nick Underhill, the the recovery time of healing a repaired ligament is between six and eight weeks. After that, it will take another six to eight weeks for the player to start to run and cut at an NFL-appropriate level.
Suffice it to say, Michael Thomas is at the very least going to miss training camp and preseason. But he could miss a few weeks of the regular season.
At the worst, Thomas could miss upwards of four months from the time of his June surgery – which would cost him around a quarter of the NFL season. For a year where the Saints are expected to be starting a new quarterback in either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill, that could be a serious obstacle.
The recovery time on an ankle ligament seems long but it takes 6-8 weeks for the repaired ligament to heal, and then 6-8 weeks for the player to run and cut as needed. Lengthy process.

Injuries limited Michael Thomas to just seven games in 2020. That was one year after he broke the NFL single-season receptions record with 149.
When healthy, Thomas is an elite receiver and among the most productive in NFL history. But with this latest injury, at least half of his season could be in jeopardy.
The Saints need to hope that Thomas is a fast healer. Otherwise they could get off to a slow start in the post-Brees era.
