Report: No injuries reported after explosion erupts at Bowling Green fuel station

Police and fire officials in Bowling Green are responding to a large explosion at a gas station, according to a report from the Bowling Green Daily News.

Around 4:50 p.m. Monday, officials from the Bowling Green Fire Department said in a Facebook post they were responding to a fire at the Comfuel location on Raven Avenue near Veterans Memorial Boulevard, just outside downtown Bowling Green.

A spokesperson with the fire department told the Daily News there were no reported injuries and officials were not aware if there was anyone inside the building at the time of the explosion. Firefighters were working to control the fire and a hazardous materials team was trying to prevent fuel from running off into storm drains. The initial call about a fire at the site came in at 3:27 p.m., according to the report.

The Bowling Green Police Department have closed off Veterans Memorial Lane between Church and Gordon avenues and has asked the public to avoid the area. Church and Clay streets were closed, but later reopened, according to the police department's Facebook page.

At least one school has also been ordered to evacuate, according to a report from WNKY-TV.
