FIFA will soon announce that AT&T Stadium in Arlington will host the 2026 World Cup final, according to The Sun’s Martin Lipton.

Lipton reports that Texas will be the main hub for FIFA during the World Cup, and that AT&T Stadium beat out New York’s MetLife Stadium for the honor of hosting the final.

The 2026 World Cup will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament will take place in 16 cities throughout North America including the Metroplex, Monterrey and Vancouver.

FIFA is expected to make an official announcement on a special program on Feb. 4 where they will announce the host city match allocations for all 104 matches in the tournament as well as the World Cup final and other key matches.

The program will air on FOX and Telemundo in the United States.

The World Cup was last hosted by the United States in 1994 which was also marked the first time the United States men’s team advanced to the knockout stage since the first World Cup in 1930. The U.S. lost to eventual World Cup winner Brazil 1-0 in the knockout stage.

The U.S. men have never won a World Cup final with their best performance coming in the 1930 World Cup where they reached the semifinal round before losing 6-1 to Argentina.

The previous men’s World Cup took place in Qatar from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18, 2022. The U.S. advanced to the knockout stage where they lost 3-1 to the Netherlands.

The 2022 final was historic as Lionel Messi won the first World Cup of his career in his final World Cup appearance as Argentina beat France 3-3 (4-2) on penalty kicks.

The 2026 World Cup will be the first since the field expanded from 32 teams to 48 teams and the first hosted in North America since the 2015 Women’s World Cup was hosted by Canada.

The U.S. men are currently the 12th-ranked team in the world according to FIFA and some pundits believe they can advance far in the 2026 World Cup.
