The landscape of college basketball could change in the next 24 hours. According to Travis Branham of 247Sports, five-star recruit Emoni Bates is expected to announce where he’ll resume his basketball career on Wednesday.

Bates, the No. 5 recruit in the 2021 class, is considering Oregon, Memphis, Michigan State and the G-League. The crystal ball predictions for 247Sports have Bates ending up on the Tigers.

A few weeks ago, Bates announced that he was reclassifying into the 2021 class. He was originally supposed to be a member of the 2022 recruiting class.

Despite the move to the 2021 class, Bates can’t enter the 2022 NBA Draft because of his age. Instead, he’ll have to spend the next two years working on his game before he can go pro.

Michigan State landed a commitment from Bates in 2020 before he ultimately changed his mind. Now, the Spartans are on the outside looking in.

Bates could join the G-League and work with pro players for two years, but Branham currently expects the Michigan native to commit to Memphis.

“The intel is still indicating that Memphis is the leader but my personal confidence is slightly lower with Bates than it was with Duren,” Branham wrote. “There is still a chance that Oregon or the G League could come away with the prized prospect but there is little-to-no expectation that he will wind back up with Michigan State.”

We’ll find out on Wednesday where Bates will play basketball later this year.
