The Damian Lillard trade rumors have gone relatively quiet as next Thursday’s NBA Draft approaches. That appears to be intentional.

An Eastern Conference source told Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report on Saturday that Lillard isn’t going to get traded “anytime soon.” The same source said Lillard wants to give the Trail Blazers another chance and wait to make a decision on his future until next season’s trade deadline.

“It sounds like he is not getting moved anytime soon,” a source from the Eastern Conference told Pincus, via Bleacher Report. “From what I’ve heard, [Lillard is] going to give it a chance and then decide closer to the [trade] deadline.”

So what is Lillard waiting on? He may be wanting to see what new head coach Chauncey Billups brings to the table. He also could be waiting to see if the Trail Blazers can make any roster improvements over the next few months.

It’s unclear what changed here. A week ago, there were reports suggesting Damian Lillard was only days away from demanding a trade. It’s pure speculation, but did the Milwaukee Bucks’ championship run change Lillard’s mind?

Giannis Antetokounmpo earned massive respect for sticking with Milwaukee all these years and then leading them to a championship. Perhaps Lillard desires a similar legacy in Portland. He is, after all, the biggest sports star in the Pacific Northwest besides Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

From the sound of it, Lillard is going to give the Trail Blazers another chance. Given today’s NBA environment, that could change at any given moment though.
