Report: Colts Make Decision On Potential Quarterback Trade

The Indianapolis Colts made headlines on Monday for only unfortunate reasons.

Carson Wentz will soon undergo foot surgery and miss the next five to 12 weeks. It’s a devastating setback for a Colts team many believe is capable of winning the AFC South and challenging for the AFC title. So who will Indianapolis turn to now? Jacob Eason and Sam Ehlinger are on the roster. So is Brett Hundley. Is that the best they can do?

Some have speculated Indianapolis could look to make another splash in the trade market. After all, quarterbacks like Nick Foles, Marcus Mariota and Gardner Minshew will be backups this upcoming season. Even Jimmy Garoppolo could lose his starting gig.

Simply put, the Colts could go out and trade for a quality backup to be their starter until Wentz returns. But it doesn’t look like that’s the path they’re going to take. Chris Mortensen is hearing the Colts will not be trading for a quarterback anytime soon, unless Wentz suffers another setback.

This is probably the right move by the Indianapolis Colts. After all, there’s a chance Carson Wentz is ready to go by Week 1 or 2. Even if Wentz can’t give it a go until Weeks 5, 6, or 7, they should still be in decent shape.

The Colts’ lack of movement in the current trade market could also be an indication they’re confident in second-year quarterback Jacob Eason. He oozes with potential. Some think he could develop into a quality starter.

For now, Indianapolis’ front office is staying put. It’s likely going to stay that way, barring another Wentz setback.
