The Arizona Cardinals have been adding a bunch of veteran talents to their roster this offseason. But they just re-signed a respected veteran and locker room leader to the roster – and no, it’s not Larry Fitzgerald.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals are bringing back defensive tackle and 11-year NFL veteran Corey Peters. Per the report, he is re-joining the Cardinals on a one-year deal.

Peters has spent the last six years with the Cardinals after spending the previous five with the Atlanta Falcons. But last year he was limited to just nine games before a November knee injury ended his season.

The Cardinals then chose not to re-sign Peters at the height of free agency despite how well he played when healthy. When no one else signed him, there was speculation that he’d spend the 2021 season without a team.

In five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Corey Peters has 146 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 19 QB hits, 8.0 sacks and a safety in 67 games.

For his career, Peters has 292 tackles, 47 tackles for loss, 38 QB hits, 19.0 sacks and nine passes defended.

Defense has clearly been a priority for the Cardinals this offseason. They made pass rusher JJ Watt their biggest signing with a two-year, $28 million deal and added former Pro Bowler Malcolm Butler on a one-year deal.

After missing the playoffs last season, 2021 is going to be a critical year for them. They’ll need all the help on defense that they can get.

Will Corey Peters return to form this coming season?
