Report: 2 Schools ‘Made A Run’ At The Big Ten
Oklahoma and Texas pursuing a move to the SEC has had a domino effect on conference realignment, impacting the other Power Five leagues, including the Big Ten.
With the Big 12 (which actually has 10 schools) now teetering on the brink, other conferences are looking for what they can add. It’s not just the leagues that are weighing their options; other Big 12 programs have to consider their next move for the simple purpose of self-preservation.
According to columnist Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman, both Kansas and Iowa State “made a run at the Big Ten” in recent days following the first reports of OU and Texas’ planned defection.
Bohls quotes a Big 12 source saying he “doesn’t know if they [Kansas and Iowa State] will get any place,” but without knowing where that source comes from, it is tough to read further into that comment.
If Bohls’ source is from KU or ISU, then perhaps their overtures to the Big Ten weren’t as well-received as they hoped. But if his source is from elsewhere in the Big 12, the person could just be trying to save face for the league.

One thing is for certain though: more movement is coming. We’re likely looking at the next big chapter in conference realignment.
