Rep. Lauren Boebert not a shoo-in for November race: poll

Bombastic Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert may be in for a closer race than expected in November, according to new data from a Democratic polling firm.

A Keating Research Poll published Monday shows the conspiracy-pushing congresswoman leading Democrat Adam Frisch by only two points, which is well within the study’s 4.4% margin of error. In July, those same pollsters said Boebert held a seven point lead in the race for Colorado’s third congressional district.

While the 35-year-old high school dropout is frequently a punchline on national late night shows, she was popular enough within her conservative community to win a House seat in the 2020 election. But according to Keating’s poll of 500 likely voters in Boebert’s district, only 47% of the MAGA-loyal Republican’s constituents hold a favorable view of their congresswoman while 49% see her unfavorably. Her opponent enjoys a 38% favorability rating to only 28% of voters finding him unfavorable.

“Boebert continues to divide voters and her favorability ratings are now underwater,” the Keating report said.

A Boebert loss would be a tremendous, and unlikely, upset, according to revered polling group FiveThirtyEight, which give Frisch only a 2% chance of upending the incumbent.

In March, Boebert drew national attention for heckling President Biden while he was delivering the State of the Union Address. She made headlines again in November when video emerged of her bragging she’d referred to Minnesota lawmaker Ilhan Omar as a terrorist during an elevator ride. Omar denies that discussion ever happened. In June, Boebert told supporters, “I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk.”

The Christmas card she posted online in December showed her family standing in front of a tree brandishing firearms. Earlier this week, Boebert falsely made the claim that schools were offering litter boxes in place of bathrooms for people who identify as cats. Her Twitter feed, where spelling isn’t always a priority, consistently shares inflammatory ideas.

Boebert’s challenger stirred the pot too in February, when he recorded an ad showing manure falling from the sky as Coloradans scramble to find cover.

“Colorado needs a bull, not a bulls---ter,” Walker says at the end of that ad.

Boebert, a mother of four from Rifle, Colo., boasts on her campaign page that she was given an A rating by the National Rifle Association and a “0% score from Planned Parenthood.”

The bio on that page describes the GOP firebrand as a go-getter who blazes her own trails.

“Her senior year of high school, she earned an opportunity to serve as an assistant manager at her local McDonald’s,” Boebert’s page boasts. “She made the difficult decision to drop out of school to help put food on her family’s table, realizing she could provide better for herself than the government ever could.”
