Rep. Jamie Raskin optimistic amid cancer treatment: ‘I'm losing about 40 or 50 hairs a day'

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., said Sunday that he is in good spirits as he battles lymphoma.

"I am hanging tough. My energy is good. I'm losing about 40 or 50 hairs a day, I would think, to chemo. So that's upsetting," Raskin said on CNN's "State of the Union."

"But, otherwise, I'm hanging tough," he added.

Raskin, the top Democrat on the House oversight committee, was a prominent member of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. The former constitutional law professor often made the case for former President Donald Trump's legal culpability in the attack.

At the end of last year, Raskin revealed his diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, which he called a "serious but curable form of cancer." He said he was beginning several months of treatment.

"I am about to embark on a course of chemo-immunotherapy on an outpatient basis at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Prognosis for most people in my situation is excellent after four months of treatment," he said in a statement at the time.

On Sunday, Raskin said physicians are still upbeat about his health.

"The doctors are very optimistic and I'm very optimistic that the chemo is going to get the cancer," he told CNN.

He added that he has received support from Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., the new chairman of the oversight committee, as well as other GOP colleagues. Even Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., known for her hard-right, strident statements, publicly reached out to Raskin with warm words.

"I have gotten lots of support across the aisle and from all my colleagues, and I'm very grateful for that," Raskin said.
