Reigning champ Leslie, state-ranked Laingsburg among teams in Softball Classic field

Ada Bradford and the Leslie softball team made history last spring when they captured their first Softball Classic title in program history.

The Blackhawks will have a chance to try for a repeat this month.

Leslie is among eight teams who will be part of this year's field for the Greater Lansing Hall of Fame Softball Classic, which is scheduled to take place from May 20 through 24 at Ranney Park in Lansing.

Joining Leslie in the tournament field are Fowlerville, Grand Ledge, Holt, Laingsburg, Lansing Catholic, Waverly and Williamston.

Laingsburg, which just helped veteran coach Jeff Cheadle reach 900 career victories, is ranked No. 2 in Division 3 and will kick off the tournament with a game against Lansing Catholic at 6 p.m. May 20. The other opening round matchup that night includes Holt facing Leslie at 8 p.m. Leslie is honorable mention ranked in Division 3.

Fowlerville will face Waverly at 6 p.m. May 21 with Grand Ledge and Williamston to follow in the other opening round contests.

The tournament championship game is slated to take place at 7 p.m. May 24.

Tickets for each day of the tournament are $5.00 with children under 12 admitted for free.
