Rehobeth coach charged with DUI after crashing into mailbox, police say

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — A Rehobeth softball coach was behind bars in Houston County for a short time on a DUI charge after investigators say she was driving erratically and crashed over the weekend.

According to Dothan Police, late Saturday, March 2, officers rushed to Honey Suckuckle Road after receiving a crash report and found a mailbox knocked over and a broken car bumper on the ground.

DPD Lt. Scott Owns tells WDHN that after a short investigation, officers found Summer Chandler parked a short distance away from the crash sight, with the bumper of her car missing.

A field sobriety test revealed Chandler was intoxicated, Lt. Owens confirmed.

She was booked into the Houston County Jail and later released.

The Rehobeth High School website shows Chandler is the head coach for the girls’ softball team.

WDHN has reached out to Houston County Superintendent Brandy White for comment.
