Rees-Mogg explains Borgias reference after comparing Rishi Sunak to notorious family

Jacob Rees-Mogg has elaborated on his reference to the Borgia family, whom he accused Rishi Sunak of behaving like after scaling back the amount of EU laws that would be revoked after Brexit.

The MP for North East Somerset previously told BBC Radio 4 “it’s no good being holier-than-thou if you then end up behaving like a Borgia” after Kemi Badenoch announced that 600 laws would be revoked rather than the 4,000 pledged.

The Borgia family produced two popes and some members became known for their treachery.

“I think he broke a promise,” Mr Rees-Mogg said of the prime minister.
