Redkey man arrested on Portland rooftop charged with dealing in meth, fentanyl

PORTLAND, Ind. — A Redkey man apprehended on the roof of a building in downtown Portland has been accused of dealing in meth and fentanyl.

Timothy J. Slaven, 39, was charged in recent days in Jay Circuit Court with dealing in meth, dealing in a narcotic drug, resisting law enforcement and possession of paraphernalia.

Portland police reported Slaven ran from a car he was a passenger in when officers approached the vehicle in the parking lot of a local convenience store.

After a police K-9 indicated there were controlled substances in the vehicle, the canine led officers to a black case nearby that contained several plastic bags holding a total of 8.2 grams of fentanyl and 16.3 grams of meth.

Slaven was found a short time later on the roof of a building in the 100 block of North Meridian Street.

The two dealing charges against the Redkey man are Level 2 felonies with maximum 30-year sentences.

According to court records, Slaven has been convicted of crimes including dealing in meth and battery resulting in bodily injury.

The driver of the vehicle Slaven was traveling in, 29-year-old, Cheyenne P. Petro, was charged in Jay Superior Court with possession of meth and possession of marijuana.

Petro, also of Redkey, already faced a possession-of-meth count filed in the same court last October.
